Wenjuan Liao, PhD

Post-doctoral Fellow

Wenjuan is from Jiangxi, a mountainous state in southeastern China. She received her Ph.D. from Tulane University in New Orleans, where she developed her expertise in biochemistry and molecular biology while studying the regulation and function of the p53 family member Tp63 and metabolism with Dr. Hua Lu. Years of Mardi Gras training also taught her how to have fun in creative and occasionally crazy ways! Wenjuan joined the Ernst laboratory at the end of 2017 and is currently investigating how MLL-rearranged B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia changes its lineage to escape immunotherapy. Her research focuses on the leukemia microenvironment and clonal plasticity during B-to-myeloid lineage switching. Outside the lab, Wenjuan enjoys dancing, ikebana, and cooking. Since moving to Colorado, she has embraced the outdoor lifestyle and enjoys climbing, hiking, camping, and snowboarding with her family. She also spends plenty of time negotiating with her son and two cats about who is really in charge at home! She has been funded by the Lady Tata Memorial Trust, the Kate Amato Foundation and the Cancer League of Colorado.
